秋晴れの山寺降りて笑う膝 79 Laughing knees down a mountain temple in clear autumn weather

約20年前、仙山線に乗った時、山の中腹にある山寺を車窓から見た。

その時、「いずれ訪れてみたい」と思ったが、今回、訪れることにした。約1000段の階段を登れる体力があるうちに行かないと、一生行けなくなるからだ。

行ってみた感想は、「こんな場所によく修行の寺を作ったなぁ！」の一言。

多分、元々岩山だったところに、無理矢理お寺を作ったのだろう。

それでも昔は、「あの山寺で修行したんですよ〜」という若い僧侶がいたらしく、就職に有利だったのかもしれない。

言い換えれば、話題性がある寺というのは、現代版の有名進学校か有名大学のようなものだったということ。

「そうか、君はあの厳しい山寺での修行に耐えたのか、ならばうちの寺でも十分に務まるだろう」という話もあったかも？

そんなことを考えながら、長い階段を降りてきたので、心持ちも膝も笑っていた。

Still, in the old days, it might have been advantageous for young monks to get a job if they could say, "I trained at that mountain temple.

In other words, a temple with a high profile may have been like a modern-day version of a famous school or university.

If you endured the rigorous training at that mountain temple, you might have been able to get a job at one of our temples.

With these thoughts in my mind, I was smiling both heartily and on my knees as I descended the long flight of stairs.

正式名称はどっち？ 東沢(バラ)公園 Which is the official name? Higashisawa (Rose) Park

山形旅行の最初に訪れたのが、ここ東沢バラ公園。バラ祭りは9月25日に閉幕しており、時期外れだったが、薔薇の写真を撮ろうと思い訪れた。

確かに薔薇は萎れていたのが多いが、遅咲きの花もあり、それを楽しむことは出来た。

それより気になったのが、公園の正式名称。

色々な観光パンフレットやweb情報では「東沢バラ公園」と記載されている。

しかし、実際に訪れてみて、現地のパンフレットなどを見ると、「東沢公園」でバラの字はない。

薔薇がメインの公園なので、勝手に名称が変わるというのは、むしろ素晴らしいことだと思う。

早く正式なパンフレットにもバラの文字を入れて欲しいが、年に2回の見頃では、採算があわないのだろうか？

The first stop on my trip to Yamagata was here at Higashizawa Rose Park. The rose festival closed on September 25, and although it was out of season, I visited to take pictures of the roses.

Indeed, many of the roses were wilted, but there were some late bloomers, which I was able to enjoy.

What bothered me more was the official name of the park.

Various sightseeing pamphlets and web information list it as "Higashisawa Rose Park.

However, when I actually visited the park and looked at local pamphlets, I found "Higashizawa Park" without the word "rose.

Since roses are the main attraction of the park, I think it is rather wonderful that the name changes on its own.

I would like to see the word "roses" included in the official brochure as soon as possible, but I wonder if it would be unprofitable for the park to be visited twice a year.

「世界のニュースを日本人は何も知らない３」谷本真由美 "Japanese people know nothing about the world news 3" Mayumi Tanimoto

シリーズの第三弾である。前作はコロナ禍(COVID19パンデミック中)での世界の話が中心だったが、今回は、東京オリンピックに対する世界の注目のほか、ヨーロッパから見た日本のイメージや人気などが書かれている。

一方で、世界の同調圧力のこと、ヤバイ国民性、風俗とドラックなど、あまり報道されないネタにも触れられている。

私が興味深いと思ったのは、3点ある。一つは、日本の普通の街の風景が意外にも世界の人には大人気だということ。

次に、海外にルーツを持つ日本人がオリンピックなどで活躍しているのは、日本の女性が多様性に寛容だという理由。

3点目は、ヨーロッパでは、肌の露出を避ける女性は「自由を否定している」と思われていることなどだ。

特に最後の点については、以前から中高年の女性でも、胸元が大胆に開いた服を着ていることを不思議に思っていた自分にとって、とても合点が行く内容であった。

解禁されたとは言え、ロシア上空を飛行機が飛べないことや、円安もあり、まだまだヨーロッパに行きにくいので、このような本を読むのはとても楽しい。

This is the third installment of the series. While the previous work was mainly about the world during the Corona Disaster (during the COVID19 pandemic), this time it is about the world's attention to the Tokyo Olympics as well as the image and popularity of Japan from a European point of view.

There are three points I found interesting. One is that ordinary Japanese cityscapes are surprisingly very popular with people around the world.

Second, Japanese women who have roots overseas are active in the Olympics and other events because Japanese women are tolerant of diversity.

The third is that in Europe, women who avoid exposing their skin are considered to be "denying their freedom," among other things.

The last point, in particular, made a lot of sense to me, as I have long wondered why middle-aged and older women wear clothes that are so boldly open around the chest.

Although the ban has been lifted, it is still difficult to go to Europe due to the fact that airplanes cannot fly over Russia and the weak yen.

不思議なミラーボール Mysterious Mirror Ball

この写真は、子供用のおもちゃのミラーボール。昼間の割と明るい部屋で撮影したのに何故か暗くなっている。

実はまだ私は基本的なカメラの操作に慣れておらず、とりあえずシャッターを押したら、こんな風変わりな写真になったのだ。

ちょっと、ミラーボールは動いているし光っているので、露出もシャッタースピードも考えなければならないのだが、今後2つの方法を考えている。

一つはきちんとこの写真のデータを分析してみること。

そして、もう一つは、同じようにミラーボールをセットして、いろいろな撮り方をしてみること。

多分、上達するには、両方とも必要なのかもしれないが？

This photo is of a children's toy mirror ball. It was taken in a rather bright room during the daytime, but somehow it is dark.

In fact, I am still new to basic camera operation, so I pressed the shutter anyway and got this quirky picture.

I have to think about exposure and shutter speed because the mirror ball is moving and shining, but I am thinking of two ways from now on.

One is to properly analyze the data of this photo.

The other is to set up the mirror ball in the same way and try different ways of shooting.

Maybe I need both to improve?

「ふたつの旅 青木茂 坂本繁二郎」アーティゾン美術館 "Two Journeys:Shigeru Aoki and Hanjiro Sakamoto" Artizon Museum

明治15年に久留米市で生まれ、同じ高等小学校で学び、同じ洋画塾で画家を志した二人。

生誕140年を記念して企画された展示会だが、28歳で亡くなった青木繁とパリ留学を果たして87歳まで生きた坂本繁二郎は、作風も性格も異なっている。

それでも、そのことを対比して企画するのは、必ず意識し合っていただろうからだ。

実際に能面などをお互いに題材にしていたことなどは、興味深い。

坂本繁二郎がパリ留学してから、作風が変わったことを考えると、もし青木繁が、もう少し長生きしていて、パリにでも行っていたら、どんな作品を描いていただろうかと思いを巡らしたが、歴史にifはないので、考えても仕方がないことだ。

いずれにしても、良い企画であったことは、間違いない。

Born in Kurume City in 1882, they both studied at the same high elementary school and aspired to become painters at the same Western-style painting school.

The exhibition was planned to commemorate the 140th anniversary of their births, but Shigeru Aoki, who died at the age of 28, and Shigejiro Sakamoto, who studied in Paris and lived to be 87, were different in both style and character.

Even so, the reason for planning the exhibition in contrast is that they would surely have been aware of each other's work.

It is interesting to note that they actually used each other's Noh masks and other objects as their subject matter.

Considering that Shigejiro Sakamoto's style changed after he studied in Paris, I wondered what Shigeru Aoki would have painted if he had lived a little longer and gone to Paris, but since there is no "if" in history, there is no use thinking about it.

In any case, there is no doubt that it was a good project.

「キース・ヴァン・ドンゲン展」パナソニック汐留美術館 "Keith Van Dongen Exhibition" Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art, Tokyo

最終日である今日閉会する展覧会に新橋まで行ってきた。

時間予約だけだが、館内はかなり混雑。もともと広い会場ではないので仕方ない。

実は、私自身、これほどまでに人気のある展覧会だと理解していなかった。

パリでは、とても有名だったそうだが、絵を見るにつれパリの社交界とピッタリ会った作風なんだろうと感じた。

また、人物画がメインの画家だと理解していたが、風景画などにも挑戦されており、とても興味深かった。

それでもやはり秀逸なのは、女性達のポートレート。なんとも力強い。

入館料は「東京ぐるっとパス」という所謂周遊券で無料になったが、結局、ちょっと高めの図録を購入してしまった。

Admission to the museum was free with the so-called "Tokyo Round Pass," but I ended up buying a rather expensive catalogue.

ロマンスカーミュージアムのジオラマが凄い！ The diorama at the Romance Car Museum is awesome!

小田急は、新宿から箱根湯本、そして支線で江ノ島を結ぶ私鉄の路線で、ロマンスカーは特急電車である。

東京都民や神奈川県民からは、ちょっと旅行気分を味わえる特急という位置づけかもしれない。

そんなロマンスカーの歴代の車両などが展示されているのが、ロマンスカーミュージアム。

私自身は、鉄道、増してや小田急やロマンスカーに特別な思い入れがあるわけではないが、「ミュージアム」と名のつく場所にはとりあえず行っておきたいので、行ってみた。

私が素晴らしいと思ったのは、実物の歴代ロマンスカーより、ジオラマだった。つまり、鉄道模型を中心にした街の模型だ。

新宿、下北沢、海老名、江ノ島、箱根湯本など小田急線の主要駅とその周辺の街並みや観光地が模型で再現されていて、朝から夜までの演出が素晴らしい。

それを見るだけでも一度行く価値はあるかもしれない。

For residents of Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, the Romance Car may be positioned as an express train that provides a bit of a travel experience.

The Romance Car Museum exhibits the cars of the Romance Car line.

I myself do not have any special attachment to trains, Odakyu or Romance Cars, but I wanted to visit a place named "museum" anyway, so I went there.

What I found most impressive was the diorama, rather than the actual Romance Cars of the past. In other words, a model of a city with a model train at its center.

The models reproduced the main stations on the Odakyu line, including Shinjuku, Shimokitazawa, Ebina, Enoshima, and Hakone-Yumoto, as well as the surrounding towns and tourist attractions, and the presentation from morning to night was excellent.

It may be worth a visit just to see it.

秋分の懇望の目はガラス越し 78 On the autumnal equinox, the pleading eyes were through the looking glass

毎月の墓参りは、バスを乗り継いで行っているが、今日は祝日だったので、車を持つ家族が車で連れて行ってくれた。

その代わりに、墓参り後のショッピングの際に、3歳児の面倒をみることになった。

猫や犬を見たいと言う(実際には、幼児の言葉で懇願された訳だが)ので、ペットショップに行って時間を潰した。

見たいと言った当の本人は、犬や猫を一通り見たら、デグーというリスのようなネズミのような小動物や子亀ばかり見ていた。

そんな中で、写真の猫が愛おしそうにこちらを見ているので気になってしまった。

実は私は猫のことはあまり詳しくない。ツンデレ系だということくらいしか知らないが、この写真の子の目には惹かれてしまった。

すでに我が家には犬がいるので、「飼うのは無理だよ〜」と言ったが、わかってくれるだろうか？

でも、「この子ならすぐに良い飼い主が現れるに違いない」と思う秋分の日であった。

Actually, I don't know much about cats. I only know that it is a tsundere type, but I was attracted to the eyes of the cat in this picture.

「世界の路地裏を歩いて見つけた『憧れのニッポン』」早坂隆 The "Japan of my dreams" found by walking in the back alleys of the world" Takashi Hayasaka

この本は、紀行エッセイ。ルポライターである著者が、観光客が行かないような世界中の国の路地裏、つまり普通の生活の場を歩いて取材した内容に基づいて書かれている。
 
国を例示すると、モンゴル、ルーマニア、チェコ、ポーランド、バルト三国、旧ユーゴスラビア、トルコ、シリア、イラク、イスラエルなど。

いずれも国民が辛い思いをした負の歴史がある国に取材に行っている。
 
さらに第二次世界大戦に関する取材の一環として、日本が以前統治したサイパン、パラオ、フィリピン、台湾なども対象だ。
 
現在の社会情勢ではまず行くことの出来ない国もあり、なかなか興味深い内容であった。

総じて、そんな国々に暮らす人が、日本という国に対して、良いイメージをもっているということについては、なんとなく嬉しく感じた。
 
しかし、私自身が一番気になったのは、世界で起きている紛争や内戦に対して、日本だけが世界の国々と違うスタンスだという点だった。

それは憲法にも関係するので、少しセンシティブな問題であるので、ここでは言及しない。

少なくとも国会議員には、世界の中の日本という視点をより強く持ってもらいたいと考えさせられた。
 
この本には、微笑ましいエピソードがある反面、日本に住んでいたのでは理解しがたい厳しい状況の中で暮らす人々も多いことも記載されている。

いかに日本で暮らす私たちが恵まれているのか、また、私自身が世界のことを知らなかったのかを実感出来た本であった。

This book is a travelogue essay. It is based on the author, a reportage writer, who walked and interviewed the back alleys, or ordinary places of life, in countries around the world where tourists do not go.

Examples of countries include Mongolia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Poland, the Baltic states, the former Yugoslavia, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Israel.

All of the interviews were conducted in countries with negative histories where the people have had a hard time.

In addition, as part of their coverage of World War II, they also cover Saipan, Palau, the Philippines, and Taiwan, which were previously ruled by Japan.

Some of these countries are not accessible under the current social conditions, and the content was quite interesting.

In general, I was somewhat pleased to learn that the people living in these countries have a good image of Japan.

However, what I found most interesting was the fact that Japan is the only country in the world that takes a different stance from the rest of the world in regard to conflicts and civil wars that are taking place around the world.

This is a bit of a sensitive issue as it has to do with the Constitution, so I won't mention it here.

It made me think that at least the Diet members should have a stronger perspective of Japan in the world.

While there are some smiling episodes in this book, it also describes many people living in harsh conditions that would be difficult to understand if they lived in Japan.

It made me realize how blessed we are to live in Japan and how little I myself knew about the world.

恐るべきカマキリの眼 Eye of the dreaded praying mantis

玄関ドアの枠のところで見つけたカマキリの写真を撮った。そして、胴体の部分だけ切り取ったら、こちらを向いていたことに気づき、さらに顔の部分だけを切り取ってみた。
 
なんと、火星人のような顔をしているではないか。しかもこちらをじっと睨んでいる。気になったので、少しググってみた。
 
カマキリの眼は複眼で三角の緑の部分全体が個々の眼の集まりだそうだ。黒く見えているのは「偽瞳孔（ぎどうこう）」といって、単に個々の眼の奥が黒いのが、こちらから見えているだけらしい。
 
さらに三角の複眼の間には、明るさを感じる３つの単眼があるという。写真では分かりにくいけど。
そして、獲物を撮るために視界は360°だそうだ。
 
凄い視力でびっくりした。こうした昆虫の実態などを調べて、怪獣や宇宙人のキャラクターが作られるのだろうか。

いずれにしても、知らなかったことを知るのは、単純に楽しい。

I took a picture of a praying mantis I found at the front door frame. Then, when I cut out just the body part, I noticed that it was looking at me, so I further cut out just the face part.

What a surprise, it looked like a Martian. And it was staring at me. I was curious, so I did a little Googling.

The mantis has compound eyes, and the entire triangular green area is a group of individual eyes. The black part of the eye is called "false pupil," and it seems that the black part of each eye is simply visible from the outside.

In addition, between the triangular compound eyes, there are three single eyes that sense brightness. It is hard to tell from the photo.
And they say that they have a 360° field of view to capture their prey.

I was surprised at their amazing eyesight. I wonder if the characters of monsters and aliens will be created by studying the actual conditions of these insects.

In any case, it is simply fun to learn about things I did not know.

強風をさらりとよけて曼珠沙華 77 Manjushage, easily dodging strong winds

本日から彼岸入りだが、日本列島は台風14号に翻弄されている。

横浜でも、ピーカンの晴天だったかと思えば、いきなり土砂降りになったりしていて、とても困る。

そんな台風にも負けず、さらりと受け流し咲き乱れるのが、彼岸花。

か細い花弁ながら、なんとか、この時期だけは持ちこたえたいとの思いを感じる。

花の華麗さを見ると、彼岸花では、少し可哀想なネーミングだなぁと思っていたら、別名は曼珠沙華とのこと。

サンスクリット語で「天界に咲く花」 という意味を持つらしい。

別名の方に一票！

Today is the beginning of the equinox season, but the Japanese archipelago is at the mercy of typhoon No. 14.

世良公則 with NAOTO KNOCK KNOCK 2022 Masanori Sera with NAOTO KNOCK KNOCK 2022

本日は敬老の日。

でも、何歳からが老人なのか、自分の中でははっきりしない。

年金を全額もらえるようになる65歳は一つの区切りとも言えるが、どう考えても、それ以上でも老人とは思えない人が沢山いる。

その代表とも言えるのが、昨晩見に行った世良公則さん。

現在66歳で12月には67歳になるが、そのエネルギーは20歳代の若者より凄い。

セクシーな歌声は昔から全く変わっておらず、しかも声量は爆発的。

ギター一本で、ロックバンド以上のリズムとメロディを醸し出す。本当にパワフルで凄い！の一言しかない。

勿論、ゲストのNAOTOさんのバイオリンテクニックも秀逸だった。
彼は、世良さんの即興の振りにも、うまくついて行ってた。

ただ、曲と演奏の素晴らしさを実感したものの、ツイスト時代の曲しか知らない自分にとっては、残念ながら、今ひとつ気持ちの盛り上がりに欠けていた。

最後になって「銃爪」「あんたのバラード」が登場し、ようやく、懐かしさと素晴らしさにちょっと目頭が熱くなった。

両曲ともオリジナルに比べて、迫力と哀愁が当時より数倍優っている。

それが45周年続けてきたボーカリストの実力だと腹の底からよくわかった。

なお、アンコールの最後は、「燃えろいい女」。

総立ちで終わらせるなんて流石。
現役66歳恐るべし！

Today is Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day.

However, it is not clear to me how old a person is.

One could say that the age of 65, when one can receive a full pension, is a milestone, but there are many people who, by all accounts, cannot be considered old even beyond that age.

One of them is Mr. Masanori Sera, whom I went to see last night.

He is now 66 years old and will turn 67 in December, but his energy is greater than that of a young man in his 20s.

His sexy singing voice has not changed at all, and his volume is explosive.

With a single guitar, he creates rhythms and melodies that are more than that of a rock band. Truly powerful and amazing! is all I can say.

Of course, guest NAOTO's violin technique was also superb.
He was able to keep up with Sera's improvisational moves.

However, although I felt the songs and the performance were wonderful, unfortunately, for me, who only knows the songs from the Twist era, the show lacked a little bit of excitement.

Finally, "Gun Claws" and "Anta no Ballad" appeared at the end, and I finally felt a bit of nostalgia and wonderment in my eyes.

Both songs were several times more powerful and melancholy than the originals.

I knew from the bottom of my heart that this was the ability of a vocalist who has been performing for 45 years.

The last song of the encore was "Moero Ii Onna (Burnt Good Woman).

It was a quintessential performance to end with the audience standing in unison.
The 66-year-old active member of the band must be a real terror!

思いのほかスムース神奈川県警免許センター At the Kanagawa Prefectural Police License Center, the process went unexpectedly smooth.

運転免許証の更新のために、神奈川県警察運転免許センターに行って来た。

日曜日の午前中は混雑していると、ホームページに書かれてたが、平日は時間が取れず、やむなく日曜日になった。

建物は、二俣川駅からバスで5分くらいの場所だが、以前がんセンターが立っていた場所に新しく建てられていた。

受付に並び始めたのが10時50分頃だったが、更新した免許証を手にしたのは、ちょうど12時。

講習時間の30分を入れてその時間だったので、思ったよりスムースで少し驚いた。

実は車を2年前に手放してからは、運転をしていなかったので、もう更新しなくてもいいかなぁと思っていたが、何かと本人確認の際に使うことが多いので、まだ手放さないことにした。

次の5年間に一度も運転しなくて済み、本人確認の方法も顔認証や瞳認証などが広がり進化したなら、手放すことにするかもしれない。

I went to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Driver's License Center to renew my driver's license.

The website said that the center was crowded on Sunday mornings, but I couldn't find time on weekdays, so I had no choice but to go on a Sunday.

The building is about 5 minutes by bus from Futamatagawa Station, and was newly built on the site where the cancer center used to stand.

I started lining up at the reception desk around 10:50 a.m., but it was exactly 12:00 p.m. when I got my renewed license.

I was a little surprised that the process was smoother than I had expected.

Actually, I hadn't driven since I gave up my car two years ago, so I thought I didn't need to renew it anymore, but I decided not to give it up yet because I often use it for some kind of identification.

If I don't have to drive once in the next 5 years, and the methods of identification have evolved to include facial recognition and eye recognition, I may decide to let it go.

秋風もほのかに匂う銀座かな 76 Autumn breeze also smells faintly like Ginza

日本で一番有名なショッピング街と言えば、私は銀座をイメージする。

日本各地に「〇〇銀座商店街」とか、「〇〇銀座通り」などがあるのは、日本で最初に煉瓦建築で造られた商店街だったからだ。

私は最近、そんな銀座にによく足を運ぶ。しかし、実はなんとも落ち着かないのが本音である。
 
いつも来ている体裁にして、自信を持ってブラブラすればよいのだが、どうしても、斬新なデザインのビル、高級ブランドのショップ、路上駐車された高級外車、さらにはお洒落で颯爽と歩く人などを見入ってしまう。

つまり、おのぼりさん気質が抜けないのだ。
 
もっと頻繁に通えば、銀ブラが似合う男になるのだろうか？

いや、吹く風に香水の匂いが混ざるような街に、自分が似合うはずはない。

自分が似合うのは、澱んだ空気に焼き鳥の匂いが混ざる○○銀座商店街の路地裏だから。
 
When I think of the most famous shopping district in Japan, I think of Ginza.

The reason why there are "○○Ginza Shopping Street" or "○○Ginza Street" all over Japan is because it was the first shopping street in Japan built with brick architecture.

I often visit Ginza these days. However, the truth is that I feel uncomfortable there.

I should just put on my usual appearance and wander around with confidence, but I can't help but admire the novel design of the buildings, luxury brand stores, luxury foreign cars parked on the street, and people walking in stylish and dashing fashion.

In other words, I can't get rid of my "country visitor" disposition.

No, there is no way I would look good in a town where the wind blows with the scent of perfume.

I would look good in the back alleys of ○○ Ginza shopping district, where the smell of yakitori mixes with the stagnant air.

「読んで、旅する。」伊集院静 "Read and Travel." Shizuka Ijuin

この本は、ダイナースクラブ会員誌「シグネチャー」に連載された「旅先で心に残った言葉」と「旅と言葉」の中から、一部を再編集して改題されている。

ダイナースカードを持つということは、かなりの富裕層に向けた文章だということになる。
 
それを一冊の本としてまとめてもらっているので、決してシグネチャーという会員誌を読むことのない私にとっては、ありがたい本である。

副題は「旅だから出逢えた言葉Ⅲ」。実は、これまでシリーズ２冊をすでに読んでいる私にとっては、とても安心して楽しめる一冊である。
 
全３章41のエッセイ集で、なんとなく第１章では、「人」に焦点をあてており、第２章では「スポーツ」。第３章では「絵画」を題材にまとめられている。

これまでの２冊に比べて、冒頭にカラー写真とイラスト数ページに渡り掲載されているのが、印象的である。
 
そして、読後の感想は、何故か気持ちが落ち着くということ。
 
それは何故なのか？　早く先を知りたくなるミステリーを読むような高揚感はない。でも、ざらざらとしがちな気分から解放される気持ちになる。

それは、旅先の情景が目に浮かぶからなのか、それとも人との会話が見えるからなのか、それとも比喩表現も含めた言葉使いなのか、自分にはよくわからない。
 
それが分かったら、プロのエッセイストになっているはずだ。
旅好きで気持ちを落ち着けたい人にお勧めする。
 
This book is a revised and partially re-edited version of "Words that Remained in My Heart from My Travels" and "Travels and Words," which appeared in the Diners Club member magazine "Signature".

Having a Diners card means that the writing is aimed at a fairly affluent audience.

I am grateful to have it compiled into one book, which is a great book for me, as I never read Signature, the member's magazine.

The subtitle of the book is "Words I Encountered Because of Travel III. In fact, I had already read the two books in the series so far, this is a very safe book for me to enjoy.

It is a collection of 41 essays in three chapters, with Chapter 1 somehow focusing on "people," Chapter 2 on "sports. The third chapter is organized around the subject of "painting".

Compared to the previous two books, the first one is more impressive in that it contains several pages of color photographs and illustrations at the beginning.

And after reading the book, I felt that for some reason I was calmed down.

Why is that?　It does not have the uplifting feeling of reading a mystery that makes you want to know what happens next as soon as possible. But it is a feeling of freedom from the rough and tumble.

I don't know if it is because I can see the scenes of the journey in my mind's eye, or because I can see conversations with people, or whether it is the use of language, including figurative expressions, I am not sure.

If I knew that, I would be a professional essayist.
I recommend it to anyone who loves to travel and wants to feel at home.

オンライン会議の効用 Benefits of Online Conferencing

昨晩、ボランティアで参加している団体のオンライン会議に出席した。

オンライン会議は、リアル会議と比べ、出席している人の表情や反応がわかりにくいことや、発言をしにくいなどのデメリットがある。

一方、コロナ対策だけでなく、多くのメリットもある。
 
例えば、自宅やオフィスでなくても構わないこと。

ズボンがジャージやパジャマでも大丈夫なこと。

膝の上にペットを抱いていられること。

コーヒーカップの中にビールが入っていてもバレないこと。等々
 
今回の効用は、内職をすることができたことだ。

耳では会話を聞き、顔は前方を見ていれば、他のことをできることに気づいた。

実は、写真のラフスケッチは、会議中に描いたもの。

完成度はともかく、スケッチの練習が出来たことは良かった。
 
会議を主催された方々、ごめんなさい。

Last night I attended an online meeting of an organization I volunteer for.

Compared to real meetings, online meetings have some disadvantages, such as difficulty in understanding the expressions and reactions of those in attendance, and difficulty in making statements.

On the other hand, there are many advantages as well as COVID-19 measures.

For example, it does not have to be at home or in an office.

That pants can be worn with jerseys or pajamas.

You must be able to hold your pet on your lap.

The utility of this time was that I could work inside.

I realized that I could do other things as long as my ears could hear the conversation and my face could look forward.

In fact, the rough sketch in the photo was drawn during the meeting.

思いがこもった写真とは？ What is a thoughtful photo?

先日、ソニー製のミラーレスカメラを買ったので、ソニーが主催している「写真の基本を学ぶ」という講座を受講した。
 
その講座で講師が受講者に質問したのが、「良い写真とはどんな写真か？」

その答えを要約すると、「撮る人の思いがこもった写真」だった。

講師曰く、「その思いを込めようとすると、おまかせモードでは駄目だ」という。

前回受講した「VLOGCAMの使い方基本講座」では「とりあえず、おかませモードで撮っていればよい」との講師からアドバイスされたので、話が違うではないかと思った。

まあ、考えてみれば、前回は動画が中心の受講生だったからかもしれないと納得した。
 
講座は４時間で、撮影モード、ピントの合わせ方、露出／絞り、シャッタースピード、ISO感度などの基本的なことを教えてもらった。
 
そして講師は、「どこにでも題材はある。家の中でも撮影できるものが沢山ある」とおっしゃったのが印象に残った。

そこで、早速、食卓の上で光る照明器具を撮影してみたのが、掲載した写真。

 一応、「いつも光を届けてくれてありがとう！」という「思いを込めた」つもりだが、「埃も落とさないのに何を言っているか！と照明器具に怒られそうだ。
 
I recently bought a Sony mirrorless camera and took a course sponsored by Sony called "Learning the Basics of Photography.

In that course, the instructor asked the participants, "What does a good photograph look like?"

The answer, in summary, was "a photograph that is filled with the photographer's thoughts and feelings.

According to the instructor, "If you want to put that feeling into a photo, you cannot use the "leave it to the photographer" mode.

In the previous "Basic Course on How to Use VLOGCAM," the instructor advised us to just take pictures in "leave it to the photographer" mode for the time being, so I thought that was not what he was talking about.

Well, thinking about it, I was convinced that it might be because the last time I took this course, the students were mainly taking movies.

The course lasted four hours and taught the basics of shooting mode, focusing, exposure/aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, etc.

The instructor then said, "There are subjects everywhere. There are many things that can be photographed even inside the house," which left a strong impression on me.

So, I immediately tried photographing a glowing light fixture above the dining table, and the photo shown is the one I took.

In a manner of speaking, I wanted to "express my gratitude for always bringing light to us!

I thought I was "expressing my feelings," but I was afraid the light fixture would say, "What am I talking about when I don't even dust it off!

I am afraid that the light fixture will be angry with me.

「決断力」橋下徹 "Decisiveness" Toru Hashimoto

著者は、誰もが知っている弁護士でテレビのコメンテーターとしても活躍している。

大阪維新の会代表で、大阪府知事や大阪市長も経験している。

私は以前から、橋下氏の自信に満ちた発言やコメントがどこからくるのか、知りたいと思っていた。

この本は、「正解が分からない問題に対して、組織やチームが納得できる結論を導く決断力が日本のリーダーに足りない。」という問題意識の下に書かれている。

その上で、知事や市長として大組織のトップとして、正解のない問題に対して、決断してきた著者の「意思決定の技法」を事例を交えて紹介している。

そのキーワードとなるのが、「手続的正義」。ネタバレになるので、詳しくは書かないが、その合理的な考え方に基づいて決断しているということが良く分かりスッキリとした。

メインタイトルの「決断力」はインパクトのあるタイトルだが、書かれている内容に相応しいのは、副題である「誰もが納得する結論の導き方」だと私は感じた。
 
また、不祥事の対応方法は、極めてシンプルなのに、総理大臣から巨大大学のトップに至るまで、全く実践出来ていないと著者は指摘する。

そうしたリーダーの失敗例をあげているので、とても納得感があり、組織の大小に関わらず、難しい問題を決断する立場のリーダーには参考になると思う。

I have long wanted to know where Hashimoto's confident statements and comments come from.

The book was written with the awareness that "Japanese leaders lack the ability to make decisions on issues for which the correct answer is not known, and to draw conclusions that are acceptable to the organization and the team." The book is written with this problem in mind.

The book then introduces, with examples, the author's "decision-making techniques," which he has used as the head of a large organization as a governor or mayor to make decisions on issues for which there are no right answers.

The key phrase is "procedural justice. I won't go into details because it would be a spoiler, but it was refreshing to understand that he makes decisions based on this rational way of thinking.

The main title, "Decisiveness," is an impactful title, but I felt that the subtitle, "How to Draw a Conclusion that Satisfies Everyone," is more appropriate for what is written.

The author also points out that although the method of handling scandals is extremely simple, it is not practiced at all by anyone from the prime minister to the heads of huge universities.

Since he gives examples of failures of such leaders, I found the book very convincing and I think it will be helpful for leaders who are in a position to make decisions on difficult issues, regardless of the size of their organizations.

犬の可愛いところは尻尾？ The cute thing about dogs is their tails?

カメラの試し撮りで我が家の犬を追いかけて撮ってみた。

でも、写真を撮ることに意識が集中してしまい、被写体の佇まいに気が回らなかった。

そう、耳が裏返ってしまっていた。ポートレート写真としては失敗作だ。
 
ところで、そんな主人を見て、この犬はツンとすました表情で何を考えているのだろうか？　

「こいつ、何やってるんだろう？」か、それとも「この機械からおやつでも出てくるのかなぁ？」なのか？
 
オンライン英会話で初めての先生に自己紹介をする際、私はこの犬の写真をよく見せる。

すると、ほぼすべての先生が「とても可愛いね！」と言ってくれる。

しかし、私自身はこの犬の顔はあまり可愛いとは思っていない。実際、犬には表情がなく、尻尾で気持ちを表現する。（だから犬同士が会うとお尻の臭いを嗅ぎあうのだろうか？）
 
だからといって、尻尾が可愛いわけでもない。

よくよく可愛いところを探してみると、「じっと見つめてくること」、「人の帰りを直立不動で待つこと」、そして、「無言ですり寄ってくること」だと分かった。
 
未婚の若者諸君へアドバイスしておく。
 
「そういう可愛い人間はいない。ペットだけだ。」と

When I introduce myself to new teachers at online English conversation classes, I often show them this picture of my dog.

Almost all the teachers say, "He's so cute!

However, I myself do not think this dog's face is very cute. In fact, dogs do not have facial expressions and express their feelings with their tails. (Is that why dogs sniff each other's buttocks when they meet?)

But that doesn't mean their tails aren't cute.

When I looked carefully for the cute parts, I found out that they stare at me, wait for my return in an erect position, and come close to me silently.

My advice to unmarried young people.

"There are no cute people like that. Only pets."

新カメラケース試行 New Camera Case Trial

物入れの奥にしまってあったポーチを出してきて、カメラのケースとして使ってみることにした。

何故か、肩掛け用のストラップだけがなくなっていた。何かに使った記憶があるが、どこに使っているのか、思い出せない。

今後、家中のストラップをよく確認することにしよう。

さて、使い勝手の方だが、カメラを入れてみるとかなり窮屈。ただ、なんとか入ることは入る。

少しカメラが可哀想な気もするが、わざわざ、専用のケースを買うのも勿体無い。

当面は交換用のレンズもないことだし、このまま使ってみるしかないかぁ？

デッサンの方は、今ひとつ、平面の凸凹の光のあたり加減がうまく出来ない。

I got out a pouch that had been tucked away in the back of the closet and decided to try using it as a camera case.

Somehow, only the strap for the shoulder strap was missing. I remember using it for something, but I can't remember where.

I will check all the straps in the house carefully.

Now, as for the usability, it is quite tight when I put the camera in it. However, it does manage to fit.

I feel a little sorry for the camera, but it is not worth the trouble to buy a special case for it.

I don't have any replacement lenses for the time being, so I guess I'll just have to try using it as it is.

As for the sketches, I am still unable to get the light on the uneven surfaces of the planes right.

折角の満月を撮れない！ I can't get a good shot of the full moon!

今夜は十五夜。天気も良かったので、夕食後に空を見てみると、南南東の方角に、満月がひかり輝いていた。

これまでの自分なら、「あぁ、満月だな〜」としか思わなかった。子供の頃は、「本当にうさぎが餅つきをしているように見えるかな？」とは思ったかもしれない。

しかし、今回は違った。カメラを買ったからだ。いそいそと新品のカメラを持ち出し、満月を撮ってみる。

しかし、見た感じと全然違う。おまかせモードだからダメなのかと思い、プログラムモード、絞り優先、シャッタースピード優先などに切り替え、いろいろ撮ってみる。

それぞれ違いはあるが、どれも黒字に小さい白点にしか見えない。

そうか、やはりズームレンズの50㎜では無理なのかと思い知った。

望遠レンズは重そうだし、高そうだし、しばらくは我慢することにして、身近なものを撮ることにした。

写真は自分が使っている椅子の一部。こう見るとなかなか洒落た彫刻だと感じる。

Tonight is the fifteenth night of the year. The weather was fine, so after dinner I looked at the sky and saw a full moon shining brightly in the south-southeast direction.

「付加価値の法則」関野吉記 "The Law of Added Value," Yoshiki Sekino

コンサルタント会社社長でもある著者の本を、私はこれまで1冊読んだことがある。

内容は、会社の存在意義を改めて見つめ直して、理念を構築し、ビジョンを示す。

そして、社員にそのことを納得してもらうためには、社長自らが熱く語るのが良いということが記載されている。

また、特に若い社員に対しては、今の時代に合ったやり方で、丁寧に説明する必要があることなども指摘している。

さらに、これまで100年続いた老舗企業であっても、次の100年も続くとは限らないとも言う。

実は、ほぼ当たり前のことばかりだが、それを実施できるかどうかが大事だということは、確かに納得した。

そして、それを実施するには、外部のコンサルタントを入れた方が良いことなどが最後に書かれている。

その最後の部分が強調され過ぎている感じがして、少し宣伝目的のための本であるような気がしたのが残念だった。

菊酒をあきらめちびり越後酒 75 I gave up on chrysanthemum sake and drank a little bit of Echigo-sake

暦の上で今日は「長陽」。
五節句の一つで菊の節句とも呼ばれている。

と、偉そうに書いたが、そのことを私は知らなかった。

恥ずかしながら、私は最初、この長陽という文字を見て、中国の地名かなと思った。

流石に暦に地名が載っているはずはないので、インターネットで調べてみた。

すると、古来、この時期は菊が見頃になるので、菊の花びらを浮かべた「菊酒」を嗜む習慣があったそうだ。

「そうか、金曜日だし日本酒もいいなぁ。さらに花びらを浮かべて飲むのもなかなか風流だ。」と思った私は、たまたま歩道脇に菊が咲いているのを見つけてしまった。

あまりの偶然に、「折角だから、ちょっとだけ夜の楽しみに摘んでいこうか？」という誘惑に駆られた。

でも、犬のオシッコがかかっているかもしれない。
夜までどうやって保存する？
そもそも誰かが育てているかもしれない？
と思い、菊を摘むのはやめておいた。

でも、頭の中にインプットされた「日本酒」は消えず、「菊水」を買って帰り、ちびりちびりと菊の節句を楽しんだ。

悪しからず?

Today is "Chou-you" on the calendar.
It is one of the five seasonal festivals and is also called Chrysanthemum Festival.

I wrote this in a big way, but I did not know that.

I am ashamed to admit that when I first saw the Chinese characters for "Changyang," I thought it might be the name of a place in China.

I was not expecting to find the name of the place in a calendar, so I looked it up on the Internet.

It turns out that since ancient times, chrysanthemums were at their best at this time of year, and there was a custom of enjoying "chrysanthemum sake" with chrysanthemum petals floating in it.

I thought to myself, "Well, it's Friday, so sake is good too. And drinking sake with chrysanthemum petals floating on it is quite elegant. I happened to find some chrysanthemums blooming by the sidewalk.

By sheer coincidence, I was tempted to pick a few for the evening's entertainment. I was tempted.

But they might have dog pee on them.
How would I preserve them for the night?
Who might be growing them in the first place?
I decided not to pick the chrysanthemums.

However, "sake" was still in my mind, so I bought some "Kikusui" and went home to enjoy the chrysanthemum festival.

白露に代わり輝く雨の露 74 Rain dew shining in place of white dew

今日は二四節気の白露。なので、朝の散歩の際に白露をみることが出来るか期待して、犬と出かけた。

しかし、どう見ても水蒸気による露ではなく、前夜の雨粒が残っているようだ。

しかし、二四節気の日にはそれを題材とした俳句を作ることを自分に課してしまった以上、なんとか俳句にしないとならない。

その結果がタイトルの駄作。
とにかく、数が大事だと考えてめげずに続けていくつもりだが・・・？

雨後の朝初めて気づく玉簾 73 I first noticed the Zephyranthes candida on the morning after the rain.

昨日の朝は雨だったので、散歩に行けなかった。今朝は晴れたので、いつもどおりに犬を連れて散歩に行った。

犬は必ず臭いを嗅ぎ、オシッコやウンチをする場所が決まっている。

今朝も公園の入り口でいつものルーチーンをしている間に、白い花が何輪か咲いているのに気づいた。

「これまで、こんなところに花は咲いていなかったのに」と思いながら、ハナノナというアプリで写真を撮った。

「タマスダレ」と出た。

私の玉簾のイメージは、大道芸人が使う「南京玉すだれ」だったので、何かの間違いではないかとネットで調べたが、どうも間違いなさそうだ。

別名の「レインリリー」は、まとまった雨の後に一斉に咲き始めることに由来しているそうだ。

どうりで、これまで気が付かなかった訳だと合点して、俳句にしてみた。

Yesterday morning it was raining, so I could not go for a walk. This morning it was sunny, so I took the dog for a walk as usual.

Dogs always smell and have a certain place to pee and poop.

This morning, while doing his usual routine at the entrance to the park, I noticed some white flowers in bloom.

My image of tamasudare was "nankin tamasudare" used by street performers, so I looked it up on the Internet to see if there was some kind of mistake, but it seemed to be correct.

The other name "rain lily" is derived from the fact that they start blooming all at once after a heavy rainfall.

I figured out why I had never noticed it before, and tried to write a haiku about it.

「羆嵐」吉村昭 Brown bear Storm" Akira Yoshimura

読んだことのない本を読んでみる第3弾は、吉村昭氏。

この本は、1915(大正4)年に北海道で起きた史上最悪の熊害である三毛別羆事件をモデルにしている記録文学である。

当時の北海道開拓民の生活の厳しさもさることながら、羆の恐ろしさが身に染みて分かる作品である。

内容はかなりリアルであり、緊張感溢れるシーン、壮絶なシーン、絶望的なシーンなどが続く。

そして、リアルなだけに、美しく、すっきりとした気持ちでは終わらないのが、ノンフィクションならではだと感じた。

これまで、こうした凄絶な事件を題材にした記録文学という分野の本を読んだことがなかったため、私はいささか衝撃を受けた。

吉村氏はこの本の他にも記録文学の本を沢山書かれているので、もう少し彼の作品を深掘りしてみたい。

The third book I'm going to read that I've never read before is by Akira Yoshimura.

This book is a documentary literature modeled on the Sankebetsu bear incident, the worst bear attack in history, which occurred in Hokkaido in 1915 (Taisho 4).

It is a work that shows the horror of the bear as well as the harshness of the life of Hokkaido's pioneers at that time.

The content is quite realistic, with tense, spectacular, and desperate scenes.

And because it is so realistic, it does not end on a beautiful, refreshing note, which I felt is only possible with non-fiction.

I was somewhat shocked because I had never read a book in the field of documentary literature about such a horrific incident before.

Mr. Yoshimura has written many other books on documentary literature, so I would like to delve a little deeper into his work.

SONY α アカデミー「VLOGCAMの操作」SONY α Academy "VLOGCAM Operation"

vlog用のカメラを買ったのに、まだまともに使えていなかった。そこで、ソニーストア銀座内で開催される無料講座を受講した。

受講者は若い人ばかりかと思っていたが、本当に老若男女であり、少し驚いた。

それだけ動画に関心がある人が多いということだろう。

私自身は、スマートフォンよりちょっと綺麗な写真を撮りたいとの思いで、ミラーレスカメラを買ったのだが、それがたまたま動画用として作られたものだったので、ちょっと興味が出てき始めているという状況である。

講座の内容は本当に基本的なカメラの使い方だったが、私にはとても役に立った。

そして、かなり充実した機能を持ち合わせているカメラだということも理解した。

ただ、講師の方の説明によれば、初心者は当面の間、おまかせモードなどで十分とのことだった。

そう言われると、早くそこから脱したくなるのが、天の邪鬼な私。

すでに動画を投稿している受講者も数人いたので、使い方だけでなく、とても刺激になった講座であった。

「スイス プチ・パレ美術館展」SOMPO美術館 "Swiss Petit Palais" SOMPO Museum of Art, Tokyo

「印象派からエコール・ド・パリへ」というサブタイトルのとおり、絵画の年代に応じて、6段階に分けて展示されていた。

第1章は印象派。第２章に新印象派。第3章はナビ派とポン=タヴァン派。第4章は新印象派からフォーヴィズムまで。
そして、第5章では、フォーヴィズムからキュビズムまで。そして、ポスト印象派とエコール・ド・パリ。

実は、恥ずかしながら、私はほとんどの画家を知らなかった。

そうした意味ではとても新鮮な展示会だった。そして、自分なりに気づいたのは、印象派や新印象派、そして、エコール・ド・パリの作品が好きだと言うこと。

逆に言うとフォーヴィズムやキュビズムの作品は今ひとつ好きにはなれないということだった。

簡単に言えば、見てわかりやすい絵画が好きなだけということだ。

残念ながら、ほぼ全ての作品は撮影不可だったが、ヴラマンクやユトリロの作品を見ることが出来たのは、新たな発見でとても良かった。

As the subtitle "From Impressionism to the Ecole de Paris" suggests, the exhibition was divided into six stages according to the age of the paintings.

Chapter 1 was Impressionism. Chapter 2 is Neo-Impressionism. Chapter 3 is the Navier School and the Pont-Tavern School. Chapter 4 is from Neo-Impressionism to Fauvism.
And in Chapter 5, from Fauvism to Cubism. And Post-Impressionism and the Ecole de Paris.

Actually, I am ashamed to say that I did not know most of the painters.

In that sense, it was a very fresh exhibition. I realized that I like Impressionist, Neo-Impressionist, and Ecole de Paris paintings.

Conversely, I have never liked the works of Fauvism and Cubism.

Simply put, he likes paintings that are easy to see and understand.

Unfortunately, almost all of the works could not be photographed, but I was able to see works by Vlaminck and Utrillo, which was a great new discovery for me.

汚れた招き猫の威力は？ How powerful is a dirty beckoning cat?

玄関に置いてあった招き猫と目があってしまい、手に取った。

よくよく見ると、なんとなく茶色っぽい。なんと埃が積み上がっていたのだ。

折角、右手を上げた猫なのに、これでは金運が上がるはずはない。

「そうだったのか？　だからなのか？」と妙に納得しつつ、埃を拭き取った姿を描いてみた。

本当は外の光が反射している部分があるのだが、そこが今ひとつ描ききれなかった。

随分と間が空いたので、やはり継続しないとダメだ。

My eyes caught sight of a beckoning cat on the front porch and I picked it up.

Upon closer inspection, it looked somewhat brownish. What a pile of dust it was.

It was a cat with its right hand raised, but this could not be good luck for money.

Was that so?　Is that why?" I was strangely convinced, and painted the figure wiping off the dust.

In fact, there is a part where the outside light is reflected, but I couldn't draw that part well enough.

It has been a long time since I painted this picture, so I must continue to do so.

碑も花もほてりを冷ます秋の雨 72 Autumn rain cools the heat of the monument and flowers

夏の暑さを和らげるような雨は、過ごしやすいので、最近ではとても嬉しい。

そんな雨の馬車道を通った時、銀色の変わった形のオブジェを見つけた。よく見ると、「日本写真の開祖　写真師　下岡蓮杖顕彰碑」と刻まれている。
 
横浜が開港された２年後の1862年から写真館を開業していたという。当時は「写真を撮ると寿命が縮む」という噂もあったようだ。そんな中で写真を仕事として活動していたのは、本当に大変なことだったろうと想像する。
 
実際、今でも「写真を撮られると魂が抜かれる」なんて言い、カメラを構えると逃げる人もたまにいる。

昔なら、本気でそう思う人もいただろうし、当時は写真師なんて、呪術師や魔術師くらいに思われていたかもしれない。
 
いずれにしても、そうしたことにめげずに写真の普及に取り組んだ人が、この横浜・馬車道にいたと思うと、自分のことは棚に上げて、なんとなく横浜市民として誇らしい。

When I passed by the Bashamichi in the rain, I found a silver-colored object of an unusual shape. Upon closer inspection, I found it inscribed with the words "Monument in Honor of Renjo Shimooka, Photographer and Founder of Japanese Photography.

It is said that he had opened a photo studio in 1862, two years after the opening of the port of Yokohama. At the time, there was a rumor that taking photographs would shorten one's life span. I imagine it must have been a real challenge for him to work in photography under such circumstances.

In fact, even today, there are people who say, "My soul is drained when my picture is taken," and sometimes they run away when I hold up my camera.

In the old days, there would have been people who really thought so, and photographers might have been thought of as sorcerers or magicians.

In any case, I am somewhat proud as a citizen of Yokohama to think that there were people in Bashamichi, Yokohama, who worked to popularize photography without being discouraged by such things, putting my own life on the shelf.
