相田みつを美術館閉館 Mitsuo Aida Museum of Art closes.

来週1月28日をもって、閉館になるとのニュースを聞いて、慌てて行って来ました。

随分前に一度訪れたことがありましたが、相田みつを氏が曹洞宗の開祖、道元禅師の教えに影響を受けていたことは知りませんでした。

そして、若い頃に書道展で何度も入選するほど、崩していない美しい字を書いていたことも知りませんでした。

そして、その後、あの独特の書体も試行錯誤をした上で、編み出された書体であることも、初めて知りました。

今回は、「いまここ」という字が書かれたポストカードを買って帰りました。

Upon hearing the news that the museum will be closing next week on January 28, I rushed to visit.

I had visited the museum once a long time ago, but I did not know that Mitsuo Aida was influenced by the teachings of Zen master Dogen, founder of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism.

I also did not know that he had written beautiful, unbroken calligraphy in his youth, which had won many prizes at calligraphy exhibitions.

I also learned for the first time that he had developed that unique typeface through a process of trial and error.

This time, I bought a postcard with the character "here and now" written on it.
