著者の「アート思考」を読んで、より西洋美術に興味を持ったので、読んでみた。
そして、これまで闇雲に美術館に行っていた自分にとって、とても有意義な本に巡り会えたと感じている。
ルネサンスからポップアートまでの流れを超簡単に整理し、そして解説を加えてくれている。
つまり、写実主義、印象派、キュビズム、ダダイズムなど何となく作品を見ていたが、代表的な作品の解説とともに、その歴史的な背景の説明があるので、とてもわかりやすい。
そして、最後には鑑賞の仕方まで解説している。
タイトルの「武器になる」というのは、まさに「知的教養が高まる」という意味だろう。
そうした意味で、歴史と美術だけでなく、クラシック音楽や哲学、宗教、政治なども含めて考えるきっかけにもなる、とても良い入門本だと思う。
