歴史の歩みの加速 Accelerating history [opinion]
「加速する歴史の歩みに備えを」というジャック・アタリ氏の記事を新聞で読んだ。
アタリ氏は、「実現する可能性が非常に高いと考えられることは、一般的な予想よりもずっと早くに起こるという法則」があるという。
その例として、あげられたのが、今回のタリバンによるカブールの制圧、1990年代のドイツの再統一、気候変動の影響、そして新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大などのこと。
そして、理由は、「民衆を制御することや矛盾を放置することが難しくなったからだ」という。
私は、その理由だけでは説明しきれないような気がする。ただし、現実にその傾向があることは認めざるを得ない。
アタリ氏は、国際情勢だけでなく、それぞれの身の回りでも同じような状況があるかもしれないと指摘する。
例えば、倒産、言い争い、死別、破局などの直視したくない出来事は、往々にして予想よりも早く起こる。
だから、「先手を打つこと」や「情勢変化を先取りして機敏に対応する」ことが必要だという。
英語で、"Elephant in the room"(部屋にいる象)は、誰もが認識しているけれど、問題が大きすぎて見て見ぬふりをすることらしい。
そうならないよう、社会問題だけでなく、個人的にも、仕事や家庭で、難題に機敏に対応する必要があるという戒めの言葉は説得力がある。
しかし、人間はそう辛いことばかりが続くと、逃げたくもなるだろう。

Atari said, "There is a law that what is considered to be very likely to happen happens much earlier than is generally expected."
Examples include the Taliban's suppression of Kabul, the reunification of Germany in the 1990s, the effects of climate change, and the spread of the new coronavirus.
And the reason is, "It has become difficult to control the people and leave contradictions."
I feel that the reason alone cannot explain it. However, I have to admit that there is a tendency in reality.
Atari points out that there may be similar situations not only in international affairs, but also in each person's surroundings.
For example, bankruptcies, quarrels, bereavements, catastrophes, and other undesired events often occur earlier than expected.
Therefore, it is necessary to "take the initiative" and "anticipate changes in the situation and respond swiftly."
In English, "Elephant in the room" is known to everyone, but it seems that the problem is too big to look at.
To prevent this from happening, the commandments that we need to respond swiftly to difficult problems, not only in social issues but also personally, at work and at home, are convincing.
However, human beings will want to escape if all the painful things continue.
