「GENKYO 横尾忠則」"GENKYO Tadanori Yokoo" [Impression]
東京都現代美術館で開催している展示会に行ってみた。サブタイトルは、「原郷から幻境へ、そして現況は？」と語呂合わせになっている。そしてこれだけでは、どのような展示がされているのか、全く想像がつかなかった。
結局、横尾氏の画家としての全体的な変遷がよくわかるような作品構成となっていた。
それぞれの時代に合わせてテーマがあり、そのテーマをイメージしながら見て回ると、理解が深まる。
例えば、「神話の森」「Y字路にて」「タマへのレクイエム」などだ。圧巻は「滝のインスタレーション」。13,000枚の世界中の滝の絵葉書を集め、それが展示されている。
最後には、アーカイブと題して5歳の時に描いた武蔵と小次郎の巌流島の決闘の模写、そして高校生の時の学園祭や地元西脇市のお祭りのポスターは、才能の片鱗が見えていた。
横尾氏が、どの時代でも精一杯、挑戦し試し続けていることが、よく分かった。
I went to an exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. The subtitle is a pun, "From Harago to the illusion, and what is the current situation?" And with this alone, I couldn't imagine what kind of exhibition was being held.
In the end, the composition of the work was such that Mr. Yokoo's overall transition as a painter could be clearly understood.
There is a theme for each era, and if you look around while imagining that theme, you will deepen your understanding.
For example, "Mythical Forest," "At the Y-junction," and "Requiem to Tama." The highlight is the "waterfall installation". A collection of 13,000 postcards of waterfalls around the world are on display.
Finally, a copy of the duel between Musashi and Kojiro's Iwaryujima, which he drew at the age of five under the title of Archive, and posters for school festivals and local Nishiwaki city festivals when he was a high school student showed a glimpse of his talent.
It was well understood that Mr. Yokoo continued to challenge and try as hard as he could at any time.
