65歳から印象派の絵画にはまって、海外の美術館に沢山行った故大橋巨泉氏の本。彼独特の語り口により印象派の画家達とその代表作などを紹介している。
最初の方のページで紹介する全ての画家の生涯年表が掲載されているのが、とても良いアイデアだ。
何故かと言うと、それぞれの画家がどんな人だったのか、誰に教えてもらったのか、あるいは教えたのか。そして、交友関係などの話が出てくるからだ。
絵を見る際には、先入観なしに観ることも大事だろうが、やはり描かれた背景を含めて観察した方が、より理解が深まることは確かだ。
そうした意味で、タイトルのとおり、「知識ゼロ」の人が印象派の絵画を知るには、とても心遣いがある優しい本である。

His unique narrative introduces Impressionist painters and their masterpieces.
It's a very good idea to have a chronology of all the painters on the first page.
The reason is, what kind of person each painter was, who taught anyone, or did he teach anyone? And there are talks about friendships.
When looking at a picture, it is important to look at it without prejudice, but it is certain that the understanding will be deeper if you observe it including the background in which it was drawn.
In that sense, as the title suggests, it is a very thoughtful and gentle book for people with "zero knowledge" to know Impressionist paintings.
