「人新世の『資本論』」斎藤幸平 [Impression]
2021年の新書大賞を受賞したことで、度々目にしていた本のタイトル。この「人新世」とはなんだろうと気になっていた。
地質学的に見て地球は新たな年代に突入したとして名付けられたもので、人間たちの活動の痕跡が、地球の表面を覆いつくした年代という意味であることがわかった。
地球温暖化により、日本は勿論、世界中の各地で、災害が発生している。また、動物が絶滅する恐れもある。とても深刻な問題だが、本書は私の目をさらに開かせた。
例えば、ヨーロッパではシリア難民が大きな社会問題となっているが、それが右派ポピュリズムの台頭を許し、民主主義を驚かしている。
そのシリア内戦も、実は気候変動が原因の一つだという。つまり、長期の干ばつによる不作で人々が困窮し、紛争が勃発する可能性が高まっているとのこと。
アメリカでもハリケーンが大型化し、ホンジュラス難民が押し寄せている。それも農業の困難さと困窮からだ。
その原因を作ったのは、他でもない、先進国に住む私たちなのだと、著者は指摘する。
さらに、では「日本に住む私たちはどうしたらよいのか」ということにも当然ながら言及している。
その答えが、マルクスの晩年の考えにある。だから、タイトルに「資本論」とあるのだ。
そのキーワードが、「脱成長のコミュニズム」。マルクスの遺言と符号するらしい。
その内容は、本書に細かく記載されている。
しかし、「脱成長」というキーワードが、そう簡単に、受け入れられないことは、読まなくても想像出来るはずだ。
成長を前提にしないということは、つまり資本主義に基づく経済成長を諦めることになるからだ。
だからといって、このまま地球温暖化が進めば、私たちの住む地球そのものが滅んでしまう。少なくとも、次世代の子孫は相当に苦労することになる。
本書では、そのための行動をし始めているバルセロナやデトロイトの例もあげている。
さらに、著者は、「3.5％」の人々が非暴力で本気で立ち上がると、社会が大きく変わる。だからまずアクション。そして大きなうねりへと指摘している。
私は、この本が新書大賞に選ばれた理由がよく分かった。

The title of the book that I often saw by receiving the 2021 New Book Award. I was wondering what this "Anthropocene" was.
