日本で一番安い果物は？ What is the cheapest fruit in Japan?

今朝、オンライン英会話のレッスンの際に聞かれたのが、「あなたの国で一番安い果物や野菜は何ですか？」という質問。

野菜については、「もやし」と自信を持って答えたが、果物はよく分からず、「蜜柑」と答えてしまった。

本当かどうかは分からないが、子供の頃、母親が蜜柑好きで、大量に買い込んでいて、いつでも蜜柑だけは食べることが出来たからだ。

さらに、友人が蜜柑農家で、以前収穫の手伝いに行っていた数年間、一冬分の蜜柑を送ってもらえたこともある。

また、パートナーの実家にも蜜柑の木があり、この時期になるともらうことが多いのだ。

つまり、冬にはいつも蜜柑が身近にあるから、そう思ってしまったのかもしれない。

もしかしたら、きちんと買えばそれなりの金額なのかもしれない。

でも、実際、何が最も安い果物なのか、よく分からない。

This morning during an online English conversation lesson, I was asked, "What is the cheapest fruit or vegetable in your country?"

I confidently answered "bean sprouts" for the vegetables, but I was not sure about the fruits and answered "mandarin orange".

I don't know if this is true or not, but when I was a child, my mother was a mandarin orange lover and bought a lot of mandarin orange fruits so that I could eat it anytime I wanted.

Moreover, a friend of mine is a mandarin orange farmer, and for a few years when I used to help him harvest, he used to send me it for the whole winter.

My partner's family also has a mandarin orange tree, and we often receive it at this time of the year.

In other words, I may have thought so because mandarin orange is always around in the winter.

Perhaps, if you buy them properly, they are worth a good amount of money.

But really, I am not sure what is the cheapest fruit.
