ポーラ美術館開館20周年記念展「モネからリヒターへ」 Pola Museum of Art 20th Anniversary Exhibition “From Monet to Richter”

印象派の収蔵品が日本最大級という箱根のポーラ美術館に行ってきた。

開館20周年記念で印象派のクロード・モネやルノアールから現代美術のゲルハルト・リヒターまで幅広く展示するという趣旨のようだ。

私はかなり以前に箱根旅行のついでに、この美術館に来た記憶がある。とにかく緑多い森の中にある白くてカッコいい美術館というイメージだけが残っていた。

今回は、多分見て回るのに時間がかかるだろうと思い、先にレストランで食事してから入館した。

前評判が高かったので、個人的には相当に期待していたが、現代美術に疎い自分にとっては、結果的に少し物足りなさを感じてしまった。

だから、最近は展覧会の図録を買うのが恒例となっているが、今回はそれを買わずに過去に開催された「ポーラ美術館の印象派展」の図録を代わりに買うことにした。

館内で作品を見終わった後も、屋外の遊歩道にある記念彫刻やオブジェを楽しめる点は良かった。

今度来る時は、どんな作品が展示されるのかをよくよく調べてから来ることにしたい。

I went to the Pola Museum of Art in Hakone, which has the largest collection of Impressionists in Japan.

The 20th anniversary of the museum's opening seems to be aimed at exhibiting a wide range of works, from the Impressionists Claude Monet and Renoir to the contemporary art of Gerhard Richter.

I remember visiting this museum on a trip to Hakone quite some time ago. All that remained was the image of a cool, white art museum in a lush green forest.

This time, I thought that it would probably take some time to look around, so I ate at the restaurant first before entering the museum.

I personally had high hopes for the exhibition because of the high reputation it received in advance, but as I'm not familiar with contemporary art, I felt a little unsatisfactory as a result.

So, recently it has become customary to buy exhibition catalogs, but this time I decided not to buy it and instead bought the catalog of the "Pola Museum of Art Impressionist Exhibition" held in the past.

It was good to be able to enjoy the memorial sculptures and objects on the outdoor promenade even after viewing the works inside the museum.

The next time I come, I'd like to check carefully what kind of works will be exhibited before coming.
