「ブルータス（通いたくなるミュージアム）」 "BRUTUS(museum you want to go to)" [Impression]
大学生の頃、定期的に購読していたのが、このブルータスという雑誌。そのちょっと前に出版されて一躍ブームになったポパイより、ちょっと大人っぽくてお洒落な雰囲気が好きで、よく読んでいた。特に建築やインテリアなどの特集は、建築系の専門誌よりも哲学的でなく軽い感じであったのが良かった。
その後、カーサブルータスなどのように住宅に特化した雑誌が出版されて、値段も高くなってきたのもあり、段々と定期購読からは遠ざかっていった記憶がある。
そんなブルータスが私の目に留まったのは、「通いたくなるミュージアム」という特集の新聞広告だった。マイブームにズバリ直球が投げられた感じで、久しぶり買ってみたのだ。
改めて読んで見ると、「字が小さい」。思いもしなかった最初の感想がそれでは情けないが、中高年向けではないことがすぐに認識できた。
それでも、内容は一般的な美術館・博物館の本とは違い、独自の視点で取材している。そこは、変わりなくて安心した。多分、興味をそそって、その後は専門的に自分でアクションして欲しいという最初のきっかけづくりとしての役目だと編集側は考えているのだろう。
電子書籍に押されて、どんどんと休刊、廃刊が出ている雑誌の中で、頑張って発行し続けていることに敬意を表しておきたい。
When I was a university student, I subscribed regularly to this magazine called BRUTUS. I read it a lot because I liked the more mature and fashionable atmosphere than POPEYE which was published just before that and became a boom.

What caught my eye was a newspaper ad featuring a feature titled "Museums You'll Want to Visit". I bought it for the first time in a long time, feeling that my boom had thrown a straight ball.
When I read it again, "the characters are small". It's a pity that the first impression I didn't even think about, but I quickly realized that it wasn't for middle-aged and older people.
Still, the content is different from general art museum and museum books, and it is interviewed from a unique perspective. I was relieved that there was no change. Perhaps the editorial side thinks that it is the role of creating the first opportunity to arouse interest and then professionally take action on their own.
I would like to express my respect for the fact that the magazine continues to do its best to publish it, even though it is being pushed by e-books and is being discontinued and discontinued.
