「祈り・藤原新也」世田谷美術館 "Prayer, Shinya Fujiwara" Setagaya Art Museum, Tokyo

私は藤原氏のメメント・モリを以前、見たことがある。その時の印象がかなり強かったので、もう一度見てみたいと思い、世田谷美術館に行くことを決心した。

「決心とは大袈裟な！」と思うかもしれないが、この美術館はとても不便な場所にあるのだ。

それはともかく、日時指定を行わなかったにも関わらず、なんとか待たずに入館することができた。

そして、決心して良かった。
藤原氏の過去から現在までの一連の作品を見ることが出来た。

特に興味深かったのは、渋谷のハロウィンに自らも仮装して参加し、若者を撮っていたこと。

さらに電車の中で床にあぐらをかいて座る女子高生達にもフォーカスしている。

彼にとって、ガンジスで焼かれる死体も美しい草花も現代の若者も、同じように興味ある被写体なのだろう。

少し哲学的にも思える彼の写真は、被写体の本質を射抜いているように思えた。

I had seen Memento Mori by Fujiwara before. The impression I had then was quite strong, so I decided to visit the Setagaya Art Museum to see it again.

You may be thinking, "What an overreaction to make up your mind! You may think, "What a big deal to make up your mind!

Anyway, I managed to enter the museum without waiting in line, even though I had not set a specific date and time.

And I am glad I made up my mind.
I was able to see a series of Fujiwara's works from the past to the present.

Of particular interest was his participation in Halloween in Shibuya, where he himself dressed up in costume and took pictures of young people.

He also focused on high school girls sitting cross-legged on the floor of a train.

For him, the Ganges-burned corpses, beautiful flowers and plants, and today's youth are all equally interesting subjects.

His photographs, which seem a bit philosophical, seem to capture the essence of his subjects.
