動物園 ZOO [エッセイ]
約1年振りに動物園に行った。当面は行かないだろうと思っていたのにだ。実は、孫と一緒なのだ。ただ、10ヶ月の孫が一緒に行きたいと言うはずはなく、その親達が孫を見たいだろうと、誘ってくれたわけだ。
だから、有り難く同行することにした。
横浜市立の動物園、ズーラシアは、開園20周年を迎えるらしい。実は昨年はじめて訪れて、なかなか良く出来ていることは、知っていたが、初孫という家族にとっては、大スターがいると、また楽しさも一段とアップするものだ。
これが世の中の爺さん、婆さんの感覚なのだろう。
ズーラシアは、オカピというロバとシマウマが混ざったような希少動物が大スターだが、意外にも無名の動物達が面白かった。アカアシドゥクラングール、セスジキノボリカンガルー、エランドなどだ。いずれにしても、飼育員さん達の愛のこもった、しかも、熱意溢れるトークが観客を楽しませた。孫がもう少し大きくなり、動物がわかるようになったら、じっくり付き合ってやりたい。
