「日本史を疑え」本郷和人 "Doubt Japanese History" Kazuto Hongo

著者は、東京大学史料編纂所教授で日本中世史の専門家。

そもそも私はタイトルが気になったので、読んでみたのだが、当たり前だと思っていた歴史を疑ってみること、自分の頭で考えてみることを著者は提案している。
 
例えば、「幕府を開いた」という歴史用語から疑ってみろという。

さらに時代の変わり目をどこでみるか。「国のかたち」は時代によっても変わるなど、教科書に書いてあった日本史をそのまま信用していた自分にとって、目から鱗が落ちるような内容であった。
 
その上で、古代、平安時代、鎌倉時代、室町時代、戦国時代そして江戸時代とそれぞれの時代について、興味深いテーマを取り上げて書かれていたので、一気に読み終えることが出来た。
 
個人的には「時代の変わり目」にとても興味を持った。

多くの場合、その時代の体制が崩壊して、次の世代へと変化する過程というのは、沢山の事件や事象が起こり、紆余曲折があり、さらに多くの命が犠牲になっている上に成り立っていることだ。
 
そんな中で思ったのは、今の時代は当時よりグローバル化しているので、単に日本だけで考えることは出来なくなっている。

つまり、世界の中での日本という視点が必要であり、ウクライナ情勢や台湾情勢など、民主主義と権威主義の対立の構図が強くなる今こそ、大きな時代の変わり目に来ているのかもしれないということだった。

The author is a professor at the University of Tokyo's Institute of Historical Records and an expert on medieval Japanese history.

I read the book because I was curious about the title. The author proposes to question history that we take for granted and to think for ourselves.

For example, he says to question the historical term "opened the Shogunate".

Furthermore, where do we look at the turning point of an era? For me, who trusted Japanese history as it was written in textbooks, this book was an eye-opener.

The book also covers the Ancient Period, Heian Period, Kamakura Period, Muromachi Period, Sengoku Period, and Edo Period, each with interesting themes, so I was able to finish reading the book in one sitting.

Personally, I was very interested in the "turn of the age.

In many cases, the process of the collapse of a regime and its transition to the next generation is based on many incidents and events, twists and turns, and the sacrifice of many more lives.

In such a situation, I thought that it is no longer possible to think only in terms of Japan, since the current era is more globalized than that time.

In other words, it is necessary to consider Japan in the context of the rest of the world, and the current situation in Ukraine and Taiwan, where the conflict between democracy and authoritarianism is becoming stronger, may be the time for a major turning point.
