2008年に起きたインド最大の都市ムンバイでの同時多発テロ。この実話に基づき、5つ星のタージマハル・ホテルでの救出劇を中心に制作された作品。
実は、疲れている時に鑑賞したので、途中で眠ってしまう可能性があると思いながら観ることにした。
しかし、その心配は完全に無用だった。緊迫した映像が次々と流れ、まさに手に汗握りながら、エンドロールを迎えた。
テロリストの容赦ない射撃や殺戮と、プライドを持ったホテルマンや高級ホテルに泊まる顧客の人生などを描写しており、完成度は高い。
さらに、事件当時の実際の映像も使っており、臨場感もある。
この事件を私自身は、すっかり忘れていた。というより、同時あまり気にしていなかったのかもしれない。
今でこそ、世界中で起こる紛争やテロ、事件や事故などに興味を持っているが、当時は目の前の生活や仕事に追われていたのかもしれない。
いずれにしても、復活を遂げたタージマハル・ホテルとその従業員に改めて敬意を表するきっかけとなった映画である。
