「マン・レイと女性たち」"Man Ray and the Women" [Impression]
渋谷のBunkamuraザ・ミュージアムで開催されるので、事前にチケットを確保しておいた。コロナウィルスの感染者数が連日、過去最高となる中で、渋谷へ行くことは、少し躊躇した。
しかし、平日でしかも雨だったので、人は少ないだろうと、思い切って出かけることにした。
残念ながら、その予想は外れた。会場には多くの観覧者が来ていた。
これまで私はマン・レイ氏を写真家だと思っていたが、絵画やデザインなどマルチな才能があることがわかった。
そのマルチな才能だけでなく、私には沢山羨ましいと、思ったことがあった。
一つは、色々なところに住んで活動したこと。ニューヨーク、パリ、ハリウッド、そして最後にはまたパリに戻っている。
次に、パリではマルセル・デュシャンをはじめ、ピカソ、ヘミングウェイやココ・シャネルなど著名な芸術家や社交界の人と付き合ったこと。
特に、カトリーヌ・ドヌーブのポートレイトは本当に綺麗だった。
最後に、入れ替わり立ち替わり素敵な女性と付き合えたことだ。
特に、ファッション・モデルで、のちに有名な写真家となるリー・ミラーが弟子になった時の横顔の写真は印象に残った。
彼の作品は、その時代時代によって変わっており、あくなき探究心があったことも理解した。
芸術家として有名になることと、作品を生み出すのはとても大変な事だろうが、これほど芸術家を羨ましく思ったことはなかった。

However, since it was a weekday and it was raining, I decided to take the plunge, thinking that there would be few people.
Unfortunately, that wasn't what I expected. Many spectators came to the venue.
I used to think of Man Ray as a photographer, but he turned out to be a multi-talented artist in painting and design.
Not only that multi-talented talent, I once thought that I was envious of many things.
One is that he lived and worked in various places. He lived in New York, Paris, Hollywood, and finally Paris again.
Next, in Paris, he met Marcel Duchamp, Picasso, Hemingway, Coco Chanel and other prominent artists and socialites.
Especially, the portrait of Catherine Deneuve was really beautiful.
Lastly, he was able to take turns and get along with a nice woman.
In particular, the profile picture of Lee Miller, a fashion model and later famous photographer, who became a disciple was impressive.
I also understood that his work changed with the times and that he had an inquisitive spirit of inquiry.
It would be very difficult for him to become famous as an artist and to produce his work, but he has never been so envious of an artist.
