女性のプロポーズを断れない日 A day when a woman's proposal cannot be refused [エッセイ]
今日は、2月29日。4年に一度の閏日。イギリスでは、1288年にスコットランドのマーガレット女王が法律を制定して以来、女性が唯一、逆プロポーズが出来る日となり、現在もその風習が残っているという。
昔は男性優位の階級社会ということもあり、女性からのプロポーズなんてあり得なかったそうだ。それでも、断ることもあるだろう。その時は、男性は罰金を払うか、シルクのドレスを買ってあげるという法律だ。
フランス、イタリアやオーストラリアでも、ほぼ同じような風習がなんと、今でもあるそうだ。
まあ、長く付き合っているのに、なかなかプロポーズされない女性にとっては、とてもよい機会だろう。男性側も年貢の納め時と諦めるしかない。
しかし、見ず知らずの女性やストーカーのような女性からプロポーズされたらとても困る。
さらには、政治家や格闘技の勇者などの美男の有名人は、女性ファンも沢山いただろう。
お金があれば、「俺は20人分のシルクドレスを買ってやったぜ！」など、自慢話にも出来るだろうが、そうでなければ、とても困りそうだ。
もし、自分だったら、旅にでも出て、いなくなるか、ずっと隠れているだろうと対策を考えた。
