世界地図 world map [エッセイ]
我が家の地図は、メイドインUSA。そのため日本が真ん中にある学校で習った地図とは違い、本当に極東に位置している。
さらに、面白いのは、英語圏、フランス語圏などの表記があることだ。この地図を見ていると、アフリカ大陸でも公用語が英語の国がわかる。
それが、オンライン英会話の講師の国と一致するのが便利だ。
それはともかく、世界の見え方という意味では、経度0を中心にしないとならないのではないかと思う。つまり、アメリカ大陸とヨーロッパは近いこと、南米とアフリカ大陸も近いことが、よく分かるのだ。西洋という地名は、まさにこの地図でないと即座に理解しがたいのだ。今の学校教育では、どのような地図を使っているわからないが、この地図はお勧めだ。
