海上保安庁の巡視船名は地元に由来 The name of the Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel comes from the local area.

船には船籍というのがあり、海上保安庁の船艇は、必ず「東京」になっています。

しかし、船名は、必ず地元に由来して命名されています。

地元というのは、全国ある11の管区のことで、例えば、北海道なら第一管区。東京、千葉、神奈川などは第三管区となっています。

そして、船名はその管区内にある地名などに由来していることを知りました。

一番大きなヘリコプター搭載型の巡視船だと、旧国名（例：みずほ）、や海上、山など（例：だいせん）、その次に大きい巡視船は半島や岬（例：いず、みうら）などです。

そのほか規模に応じて湾、島、会館、河川などからつけられているそうです。

ただし、小さな船になると、雪や霧、波、月、雲、風や花なども利用されています。

しかし、事情によっては、人事異動と同様、配置換えがあるそうで、管区を超えた場合は、原則として船名も変わるとのことです。

とにかく船の数が多いので、地元の人に分かりやすいように、そして愛着が沸くようにと、そうした措置がとられるそうです。

因みに、写真の巡視船あしたかは、静岡も所管する第三管区の所属で富士山の南隣にある「愛鷹山」が由来だと思われます。

Incidentally, the patrol vessel Ashitaka in the photo belongs to the 3rd Regional District, which also has jurisdiction over Shizuoka, and is thought to be named after Mount Ashitaka, which is located south of Mount Fuji.
