「イン・ザ・プール」奥田英朗 "In the Pool" Hideo Okuda

この本は、最近のマイブームである「笑える小説」の一環で探し出した作品。

著者は、この作品で直木賞候補になり、さらに次の作品では直木賞を取ったそうなので、期待を持って読み始めた。

全5編からなる短編集ではあるが、一貫して登場する精神科医の主人公のキャラクターが医者らしくなく、自分勝手で、完全にぶっ飛んでいる。確かにそこが笑える。

しかし、「この医者はもしかしたら名医なのかも？」と思うこともあった。
あまり書くとネタバレになるので、詳細は省くが、今の生きにくい社会に対するメッセージが含まれているような気がしたのだ。

人にどう思われるかかを気にするあまり、自分の気持ちを制御してしまうことに対するアンチテーゼなのかもしれないと思うことがあった。

だから、少なくとも大笑い出来る内容ではない。でも、著者は「もっと気楽に自由に生きていいのでは？」ということを言いたかったようにも受け取れる。

このシリーズは他に2作品あるようなので、もう少し読んでみないと、私の考えが正しいのか、間違っているかはわからない。

This book is a work I found as part of my recent boom in "laughing novels."

The author was nominated for the Naoki Prize for this work, and he won the Naoki Prize for the next work, so I started reading with expectations.

Although it is a collection of five short stories, the character of the psychiatrist's main character, who appears consistently, is not like a doctor, but is selfish and completely blown away. Certainly that is funny.

However, I sometimes wondered, "Maybe this doctor is a good doctor?"
If I write too much, it will be spoiled, so I will omit the details, but I felt that it contained a message for the current difficult society.

I sometimes thought that it might be an antithesis against controlling my feelings because I was so concerned about what people thought.

So, at least it's not something you can laugh at. However, it seems that the author wanted to say, "Isn't it okay to live more comfortably and freely?"

There seem to be two other works in this series, so I can't tell if my idea is right or wrong without reading a little more.
