幼児向け絵本の選び方 How to choose a picture book for young children

家族から依頼されて図書館に絵本を借りにいった。３歳前の男の子のための絵本である。公共図書館であれば年齢別に絵本が陳列されているものと思い込んでいたが、そうなっていなかった。
当然、どの本を選んでよいのか、分からないので、図書館のスタッフは聞いてみようかと思ったが、接客対応で忙しそうなので諦めた。しかたなく、「ぐりとぐら」という知っている本などを手に取って、借りてきた。
 
本が好きな子は学力もつく、つまり勉強が好きになると漠然と思っているので、ここで本を好きになってもらいたいとは思っているが、どんな本に興味を持ってもらえるのか、皆目見当もつかない。まずは、実績のある有名な本を沢山借りて、片っ端から読み聞かせるしかなさそうだ。

I went to the library to borrow a picture book at the request of my family. This is a picture book for boys 3 years old. I assumed that picture books would be displayed by age in a public library, but that was not the case.
Of course, I didn't know which book to choose, so I decided to ask the library staff, but I gave up because they were busy with customer service. I had no choice but to pick up a book I knew called "Guri and Gura" and borrow it.

I am vaguely thinking that children who like books will also have academic ability, that is, they will like studying, so I would like them to like books here, but everyone has a clue as to what kind of books they will be interested in. It doesn't work. First of all, it seems that there is no choice but to borrow a lot of famous books with a proven track record and read them from the beginning.
