山寺仁王門の脇役に注目！

この仁王門は、1848年に再建された。その名の通り、門の両脇に祀られている「仁王様」が主役だ。

有名な運慶の弟子たちによって作られたものなので、なおさらである。

しかし、私はそれよりも仁王像の上にいる龍に興味を持った。硬いケヤキの木から、これほど躍動感溢れる龍を彫り出すには、それなりの技術が必要だっただろう。

主役ばかりでなく、たまには、脇役に注目すると、なんとなく晴れがましい気分になる。

Look out for the supporting role of the Niomon Gate of the Yamadera!

This Niomon Gate was rebuilt in 1848. As the name suggests, the "Nioisama" enshrined on either side of the gate are the stars of the show.

This is even more so since they were created by the disciples of the famous Unkei.

However, I was more interested in the dragon on top of the Deva. It must have required a certain amount of skill to carve such a dynamic dragon out of hard zelkova wood.

Sometimes it is refreshing to pay attention not only to the main characters, but also to the supporting characters.
