「兎の眼」灰谷健次郎 "Rabbit's Eye" Kenjiro Haitani

灰谷健次郎氏の作品は随分前に「天の瞳」シリーズを読んだ。

その時には、「これからは教育こそが大事だ」と思い、教育ボランティアに私は参加した。

しかし、家人から「自分の子供の面倒もまともみれてないのに、他人の子供の教育など出来るのか？」ときつく言われ、そのボランティアは諦めたことを思い出した。

ということで、著者の本はかなり久しぶりだ。初版は1974年なので、言うまでもなく時代背景は異なる。

被差別地域、障害児への対応、女性の人権など、社会的にまだ大きく取り沙汰されていない課題に切り込んでいるところは、当時、勇気のいることだったろう。

現在では政治的に右左と識別されてしまうこともあるかもしれない。

しかし、人間のエゴを認めた上で、人を理解すること、助けること、そして、成長することなどを描いている。
児童文学というカテゴライズでは収まりきれない、深い人間への愛を感じる。

そんな意味では、むしろ今の時代にこそ重要な視点なのではないかと感じた。

古い本でも、読み直すと自分の中で、新しい発見があることに気づいた。

Kenjiro Haitani's work,I read the "Ten no Hitomi" series a long time ago.

At that time, I participated in an educational volunteer, thinking that "education is important from now on."

At that time, it would have been courageous to cut into issues that have not yet been widely discussed in society, such as areas to be discriminated against, dealing with children with disabilities, and the human rights of women.

Nowadays, it may be politically identified as left or right.

However, after acknowledging the human ego, it depicts understanding, helping, and growing.
I feel a deep love for human beings that cannot be accommodated by the categorization of children's literature.

In that sense, I felt that it was an important point of view in this era.

When I reread an old book, I realized that I had a new discovery.
