今月は春に向けた準備の月とする This month shall be a month of preparation for spring

2月のフェブラリーは、古代ローマの贖罪の神フェブルウスが由来とのこと。過去の罪を償い、浄める時だという。

また、ヨーロッパの15世紀の絵暦によると2月は耕地整理の時でもあるようだ。

前年の収穫で養分がなくなり荒れた耕地を耕し、空気を入れ、浄めた上で春を待つ時期ということだそうだ。

今が一番寒い時で、縮こまりがちではあるが、節分を経て次の春に向かうために、準備をする気持ちになれば、暗くて冷たい2月も、なんとか乗り越えられそうな気がする。

2月が短いのはそういう意味合いもあるのだろうか？

いずれにしても、これまでの行いを反省し、新年度に向けて準備をすることを今月の目標にすることにしよう。

It is a time to cultivate, aerate, and purify the arable land that has lost nutrients from the previous year's harvest and is in disrepair, and then wait for spring to arrive.

It is the coldest time of the year, and we tend to shrink down, but if we can get ready for the next spring after Setsubun, I think we can somehow get over the dark and cold February.

Is that part of the reason February is so short?

In any case, I shall make it my goal this month to reflect on my past deeds and prepare for the new year.
